Sousa’s Stucco is an EIFS contractor (Exterior Insulated
Finish Systems) creating beautiful, affordable and maintenance
free exteriors on all your projects. EIFS, which is sometimes
referred to as “synthetic stucco” has become very
popular in the last few decades as a low maintenance, inexpensive
way to create beautiful exteriors which gives architects flexibility
without adding significantly to the budget of the project.

I, Emanuel Sousa, owner of Sousa’s Stucco, have been
in the business for over fifteen years. I’ve been a
projector manager/installer on projects ranging from residential
additions, modest homes, multi-million dollar mansions, to
large commercial projects such as nightclubs, restaurants,
shopping malls, and hotels.
During my fifteen in business, I served a three year apprenticeship
with David Aiello. David Aiello has been in the “EIFS”
Industry from the inception, receiving his training and license
from Frank Morsilli, former owner and creator of the Dryvit
System. During his years in the EIFS Industry, Aiello has
been Project Manager or installed millions of square feet
of EIFS, manufactured EIFS products, own patents and trademarks
related to the EIFS Industry, and currently is the owner and
distributor of the US EIFS product line.

Sousa’s Stucco has installed EIFS on projects in some
of the most prestigious residential developments in Rhode
Island, namely, Lincoln’s Bridlewood Estates, and Cranston’s
Ridgewood Estates. Some commercial projects range from Dunkin
Donuts, and CVS in Rhode Island, to the Hampton Inn Hotel
in Marlboro Massachusetts, and Ameri-Suits Hotel in Medford
Massachusetts.
In
1999, David Aiello and I collaborated on one of our most ambitious,
artistic and challenging projects. The goal was to recreate
an Italian Villa in Depasquale Plaza on Atwells Avenue, Providence,
Rhode Island. Since the building was in the historic district,
it would have to conform to certain criteria. This building
would be the new home of Alan Costintino’s Venda Ravioli.
When the project was finished, everyone applauded the building’s
new exterior. According to the members of the Rhode Island
Historical Society, the “façade is an aesthetic
masterpiece.” Articles were written in the Providence
Journal praising the design, stating, “You could not
recreate that look with natural products. It would be too
cost prohibitive.” The restaurant has been seen nationwide
on the “Food Channel Network.”
Many people ask, “What is EIFS?” EIFS is an acronym,
which stands for Exterior Insulated Finish Systems. It is
exterior it is usually installed to the exterior of projects.
It is insulated depending on the thickness (3.2 R-Factor per
inch) it has the added benefit of adding insulation to any
building lowering the heating and cooling costs. The finish
that is applied today comes in virtually any texture and color.
For example: the exterior of Venda Ravioli was sprayed with
a product, which closely resembles gray granite. The system
can vary but it usually consists of EPS (expanded polystyrene)
glued or mechanically fastened to the substrate. Basecoat,
is a cement product fortified with latex polymer which is
applied over a fiberglass mesh adhering it to the EPS. And
finally, the finished is applied.
The Eifs Industry has had tremendous growth since its inception.
With its low cost, design, flexibility, durability and low
maintenance, EIFS may be what you’re looking for on
your home, or next commercial project. If you’re looking
